CAMDEN (July 14):
The 16th annual Maine Sport Runoff Mountain Bike Race will be Sunday, July 17 at the Camden Snow Bowl.
Maine's oldest mountain bike race is part of the Maine
Mountain Bike Association's series of eight races. The course is a
four-mile loop made up of a challenging mix of terrain, including
rolling buff single-track, a few mud pits, meandering old logging
roads, ski trail climbs, greasy descents and a rocky, root-filled goat
path.
There is a separate children's race course
held on fun but less challenging terrain and designed to keep those 12
and younger entertained.
There are races of various lengths
for cyclists of all abilities and ages. Maine's top mountain bikers
will start at 10:30 a.m. and do 16 miles. The 12-and-younger children
will race at 12:30 p.m. The novice and first-time racers hit the trails
at 1 p.m. for four or eight miles.
There will be $1,000 in prizes awarded.
Participants
may register online at bikereg.com for $18, or the day of race for $25.
The children's race and first-timer race are free. All racers must have
a racing license or purchase a one-day license at the event for $4.
