MessageOpening up new trails in SGAug 29, '05 12:19 AM
by MDSG for everyone
Last saturday i met one of my relatives who works for nparks. His area of work centres on trees.

I spoke to him abt getting more MTB trails. aka official.

His advice was for us to write to nparks and hopefully with nparks getting a flood of emails, worded nicely of course, someone higher up will do something abt it.

One of Nparks goals is :
To promote 'green' recreation as a lifestyle

pls refer to the link below
a www.nparks.gov.sg link

with that statement, we can state that cycling is a green recreation as we do not consume oil, unlike cars. well not totally, we still need lubrication. :)

and cycling is indeed a healthy lifestyle.

we can aslo cycling on the roads is dangerous. if anyone wants, they can try to check TP's website for the stats. or u can just give an example of the Australian Olympic team that met with an accident in Germany. There goes Singapore's chance of a gold medal, if that was to happen to our riders that is. well some MTB do cycle on roads to train too.

We should aslo suggest places that can be made into official trails. If not, we might be given Ubin.

I also asked whats the difference between State land and Reserve land. Nparks do not plant trees in State land. Reserve Land is untouchable as it have been earmarked for future development.

My idea of a new trail is the land on the left and right of T15. I think some of them are stateland, so theoretically, we can hack and slash to create a new trail along T15, criss crossing it if need be. there are ppl planting vegetables on stateland if you noticed.

Government bodies are now listening to the public, well the should be in the first place. hahahhaa
so emails/letters to Nparks are compiled and are being submitted to higher bodies for collation of statistics. I tell you someone will score if they implement something that the public actually wants and get promoted.

so now, if someone can draft a sample letter proposing to Nparks to open more trails that would be excellent.

for those mtb trails in you know where, if there is an existing trail, i am told that its not really a big deal after all to be riding in there. unofficially of course. as long as you dont go in and hack and slash to make new trails. well those rangers are just merely doing their jobs and following the book.

in the letter, we can also promote MTB trail riding to tourists who are inclined to do so. we cant expect them to be always spending their money at the soon to be built IRs. right?

The existing official MTB trail at BT can be promoted as a beginner trail, while the more difficult twisting singletrack with roots and fallen trees and what not can be promoted as a novice and above trails. I definately do not want the singletrack to be made into a highway like BT or T15. hahahahahaha

i think i will download pete fagerlin's mtb xc vids and pass it to my relative.
